English Skills Book 4

Schofield & Sims English Skills provides graded questions that develop pupils' literacy skills at Key Stage 2. Key areas are constantly revisited, giving pupils the intensive practice that is essential if they are to become fully literate. Every Schofield & Sims English Skills book is divided into three sections, each comprising 12 one-page tests covering spelling, word structure, vocabulary, sentence formation, punctuation and grammar. Each section also contains two tasks providing a tailor made context in which pupils may apply their developing skills.

English Skills 4 is for pupils who can write compound and some complex sentences using conjunctions, phrases, adverbials and varied sentence starters. Able to spell correctly most medium frequency words, they can identify root words to help them spell and understand unfamiliar words. Designed for Year 5, this book may also be used with older or younger pupils. It helps pupils learn to: experiment with sentence construction, adapt sentences to suit different purposes, use commas to separate phrases, set out and punctuate direct speech, correct errors in the use of apostrophes and apply knowledge of the word origin and roots.
